Everyone wants to drive traffic to their blog and there many ways in which to do so.  Whether it’s through leaving comments on other people’s blog, getting a post dugg, interacting with fellow MyBlogLog members etc. etc.  It has been nearly 3 weeks since I started this blog and numbers of visitors are slowly but surely increasing.  I came across a post today on one of my visitor’s blogs (Enkay Blog – 1st blog on the list below) and he is starting his own link chain to try to get as many link backs as possible and to hopefully increase his page rank.  So here is his link chain if you would like to join and also try to increase your google page rank:

Green Tea Mousse Pocky

Posted on July 27th, 2007 in Green Tea London by Stephanie

A favourite green tea snack of mine that can be bought in the Japan Centre supermarket in Piccadilly (212 Piccadilly, London, W1J 9HX) is Green Tea Mousse Pocky.  Green Tea Mousse Pocky is basically a plain biscuit stick covered with a green tea chocolate-like substance (which doesn’t really resemble mousse).  The green tea chocolate has a strong milky green tea flavour but with the bitter aftertaste that I like from green tea foods.  I would definately recommend trying it!

Cheap Cinema Tickets

Posted on July 26th, 2007 in Cheap Days Out In London,Freebies,Money Saving Tips by Stephanie

London doesn’t need to be an expensive place for those in the know.  I will be giving tips over the many weeks to come on how to save when going out in London.  In my Toptable post, I showed you how to save money when dining out, well there is loads of money to be saved when going to the cinema too.  Vue cinema offers standby cinema vouchers for £4.25 plus 50 pence booking fee on Mondays to Thursdays from lastminute.com.  A standby cinema voucher can be used to see the latest movies in any Vue cinema in London which means that you can even go to the West End Vue in Leicester Square for £4.75 where tickets are normally £11.75!  So that’s a saving of £7!!

Another cheap cinema ticket offer which those with an Orange mobile are probably already using is “Orange Wednesday”.  Every Wednesday you can buy 2 cinema tickets for the price of 1 at practically all cinemas in the UK by texting “film” to 241 from your orange mobile and you will then receive a text message with the 2 for 1 voucher that you can use at the cinema!  Orange broadband and dial up customers can also use this offer – there is more information on this at the Orange website.  To get a free Orange sim card sent to you, you can order one from here.

A lot of movies have free screenings before they are actually released in cinemas (I used to attend nearly 1 a month but the number of free screenings has decreased over the years) so I will keep my eyes peeled and let you all know if I find any free screenings.  Feel free to leave a comment if you find a free screening too…

Donzoko

Posted on July 23rd, 2007 in Mission - Japanese Restaurants by Stephanie

One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in London is Donzoko (which I believe means “The Lower Depths”? – but don’t let this put you off :-)) and definately one of the best Japanese restaurants in town.  It is a small restaurant on Kingly Street just behind Regent Street which I have been visiting at least once a month for the past 4 years.  I made a last minute booking at Donzoko last Friday after feeling a little too lazy to cook and got to the extremely packed restaurant for 8pm.  I was lucky to be given a table as the restaurant only seats around 25 people and 8 at the sushi counter.  They have an extensive menu with a lot of dishes that you would not normally find in other Japanese restaurants around London.  The food is very authentic and cooked by Japanese chefs in an open kitchen in a corner of the restaurant.

I would highly recommend the aubergine with garlic and miso sauce (see picture below) which is the best I’ve ever had in any restaurant.  The aubergine just melts in your mouth and the miso sauce and garlic complement each other well (very tasty!).  I also had a generous portion of pumpkin tempura which was perfectly cooked in a light crispy batter and tanuki udon (udon soup with tempura bits) which again I think is the best I’ve tasted as the soup is deliciously sweet.  I tend to stick with these few dishes everytime I visit as its so good that I can’t help but keep ordering the same thing!  However, what I’ve tasted from the rest of the menu has been excellent although the sushi is maybe not as good as other places.  The green tea ice cream is a perfect ending to a meal there and has a strong sweet green tea flavour with a bitter aftertaste as opposed to some green tea ice creams which I’ve had that taste like vanilla ice cream with green food colouring!

Staff are always polite and efficient and the owner is a lovely lady who will always greet you with a smile and thank you profusely when you leave.  Cost for a meal for 2 is around £30 which is excellent value for an authentic experience.

So that’s 2 down now for my Japanese Restaurant Mission, another gazillion to go!!
