Detox With Green Tea

Matcha Green Tea

As it’s the start of a new year I’ve been doing all the usual things such as eating more healthily, trying to stick to my New Year’s resolutions and I even joined a gym and am now completely hooked on Les Mills Body Attack classes! :) One thing that I’ve also been doing and hope to continue (fingers crossed) is replacing all coffee breaks and my daily English breakfast tea with green tea. Green tea is great for detoxing and has more antioxidants than black teas so is great for removing toxins from the body whilst protecting the immune system and preventing disease. It also helps reduce bad cholesterol present in the body and boosts your metabolism therefore aiding in weight loss!

There are many different types of green tea both pure and flavoured with Japanese matcha green tea being the healthiest. Matcha is a powdered green tea made from ground tea leaves that delivers even more health benefits than brewed tea since you are consuming the nutritional benefit of the entire leaf. It has been shown to even delay premature aging!

Green tea is delicious and refreshing and if you haven’t tried it before you can get 2 free samples from Twinings and try Twinings new green teas. They also have an online tea shop so that you can buy green tea online!

Yo Sushi Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream

Posted on September 16th, 2011 in Green Tea London by Stephanie

Went to Yo Sushi the other day for the first time in years and noticed they had a new dessert on their menu which I just HAD to try, the Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream. Mochi is a Japanese sweet which has a layer of glutinous rice on the outside and is usually stuffed with some sort of sweet bean paste but in this case green tea ice cream. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment, tasted nothing like green tea and perhaps more like bitter jasmine tea, so not something I would really recommend…

Japanese Green Tea Melon Pan

Posted on August 1st, 2011 in Green Tea London by Stephanie

Found Japanese green tea flavoured melon pan (melon bread) in the Japan Centre supermarket today. Melon pan is a sweet bun found in Japan with a thin layer of crisp cookie dough on top which resembles a melon. It is traditionally melon flavoured in Japan but this green tea flavoured version tastes just as good or maybe even better! Definately very addictive!

Green Tea And Red Bean Cake

Posted on October 5th, 2007 in Green Tea London by Stephanie

One of my favourite green tea foods from London is the green tea and adzuki (red bean) cake from the Japan Centre supermarket in Piccadilly, which they have recently started selling.  The sponge has a mild green tea flavour and a very light texture (it is probably steamed) and red bean paste is rolled into the sponge so it is a bit like a green tea red bean swiss roll.  The red bean paste is not too sweet (as it can be in some japanese cakes/sweets) but has a buttery sweet taste which complements the sponge well.  So if you are in the area I would highly recommend trying it!

Green Tea Cookies

One word for you – revolting!  Bought these green tea cookies yesterday from a chinese supermarket having never seen these particular ones being sold before.  Was a bit doubtful about purchasing them as they have jasmine tea as part of the ingredients and I should have followed my doubts because the cookies do not taste like green tea at all and just have a bitter off-jasmine taste.  So these are going straight in the bin unless anyone would like them??  I think in the future I will be sticking with green tea foods that are manufactured by Japanese brands as they tend to be much better.
