Search Engine Optimization Technique – Get Backlinks

Posted on August 12th, 2007 in Drive Traffic To Your Blog,Search Engine Optimization by Stephanie

A key search engine optimization technique is to generate as many backlinks as you can to your website.  Links to your website are the single most important factor in search engine ranking.  If you have a lot of backlinks, then search engines will think that your blog is important since other websites are linking to you so it will therefore rank you higher.  However the type of link is an important factor.  An ideal link should:

  • come from a relevant website (ones that are similar to yours and have the same keywords)
  • come from a website with a high page rank
  • come from a page that links to few other websites
  • include your keyword as part of the link text
  • include varying link text (not the same link text each time)

Getting a link which includes all the above points can be difficult but as long as you have most of them then a search engine will see your site as being credible and this should help your page rank!

The journey to great SEO can be tough at first, but if you hang in there and keep on adding links – you will drastically increase traffic.

i would say it is very, very long journey!! i have been adding lots of links to one of my blogs, and still my traffic was only from google and facebook… it must depend on which sites you’re leaving the backlinks….

i agree, getting links is never more important than anything else, at least for Google. Generating good content is also another way to improve your SEO.

Search engine optimisation is undoubtedly the most powerful marketing toll for companies today. Whether you are a large business or a start up venture, a good search engine rank for your website can take your business to the next level. As rightly pointed out back-links are one of the main factors that can improve your website rank. We are a small business based in London and we rely heavily on our Google rank to generate new business for us.

You’re right, links are still the single most important factor of SEO. The difficulty these days is to find the quality links, without a reciprocal link.
Linkbait is good for that though…

I’m one who believes that many low level links won’t hurt you, they just won’t help you that much (aside from those who click the links while they’re still new, such as in forum signatures or comments like this). As far as search engines are concerned, I don’t see it hurting, I just see them ignoring too many low links.

But let me tell you a little something: Gone are the days when you simply start a blog and people come flocking by the millions. People need to be able to find you and no, they aren’t going to come looking.

There are other ways these days to increase exposure as well. Facebook, YouTube and Google+ have all become great ways of helping you boost your visitor count. Sure, every visitor adds up, so every little tweak you can make helps you stack up better.
